You Wouldn't Dare (Khaos Trilogy Book 1), стр. 11

Alarms sounded, people were screaming, pups were yapping and frantically looking for their parents.

We were under attack.

Logan grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the bedroom toward the safe room. All women and children were to remain locked up whilst the threat was present - I knew this pissed some people off, there were women here who could defeat even the strongest of males but... my mother. As if I even needed to say anything else.

I was just about to turn into the direction of the safe room when I heard a voice that made my blood run cold and my feet come to a grinding halt.

“Where is she?” That deep, hypnotic voice vibrated around the entire pack compound.

He had found me.

My wolf came instantly to life, jumping for joy at the thought of him coming for her, claiming her. She had been sulking all afternoon, making her unhappiness well known with her wailing cries and her huffing and puffing.

With a will of its own, my body turned towards the sound of his voice, my legs becoming weak and shaky. Logan grabbed my shoulders and shook me, trying to get me to pay attention to him. I shot him a murderous glance, my head straining to look over his shoulder and find the dominating figure of my mate.

I didn’t want to see him. I needed to see him.

“Violet, what are you doing?!” He all but screamed at me, “do you know who that is?”

I wasn’t listening. My eyes had caught sight of him through the window. His chest bare, his muscles rippling with every move he made.

“Entire pack houses are on fire, Violet! You need to move!” Logan shoved me back, but my feet remained where they were.

“Khaos,” I whispered, and his head turned in my direction. He grinned wickedly, his eyes lighting up when he saw me, his face softening ever so slightly. He sent me a small wink. I groaned softly, becoming weak-kneed at that small action meant just for me. His soft look turned to a frown, a nasty growl rippling through him when he noticed Logan by my side, touching me, pleading with me.

He pointed in my direction and two massive, hulking soldiers came bursting through the doors, one seizing Logan, the other roughly grabbing my wrist and dragging me outside.

Khaos met my eyes the minute I was in front of him, casting the same spell over me he had done the moment I met him. He scowled at the soldier when he noticed he was touching me, growling out a fierce warning. They dropped my wrist before he had even finished his growl.

Khaos raised his hand and made a come-hither motion with his finger, and I could not stop my body from responding, my feet moving of their own accord towards him. I had barely gone two steps when my dad seized me, pulling me close and breaking the spell. I looked around me and gasped.

There was smoke everywhere. I could see flames licking away at the houses, burning them to the ground. Khaos must have brought his entire army of warriors as all of our men were on their knees, hands bound and tied behind their backs.

“Hello, little one,” Khaos called out softly, looking at no one but me. I shivered at the sensual way his words echoed in my mind. I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t help but look up through my lashes at him.

He was so handsome, so undeniably sexy. He called to me on every level. All I could focus on was him, the world seeming to shrink until it was just the two of us, safely cocooned in our own little world built just for us two. He smiled again, holding out his hand to me.

I went weak.

It took every ounce of control I had not to throw myself into his arms. I could already feel his touch, my skin tingling with desire.

I forced my gaze away from him, ignoring the way the hairs stood up on the back of my neck as he gave a warning growl that stemmed from disappointment in me. I swallowed hard as I made myself look around at the compound and noticed for the first time the bodies on the floor, the blood pooling around them.

How many men had we lost tonight? How had he attacked this quickly? “Come here,” he demanded softly, but I just shook my head, unable to process everything that was happening. He smiled gently, his eyes shining bright with an emotion I couldn’t quite place. He seemed to have infinite patience with me, recognising that this was difficult.

It wasn’t something I had expected from him. He wasn’t supposed to act this way. He was supposed to be domineering, ordering me around. I could fight against that. What I couldn’t fight against was the loving way he looked at me, as though I was already his reason for living, his entire universe.

It was almost more than I could bear. How could I deny that soft, open look that promised so much and demanded so little?

He had such a profound effect on me that once again, everything else seemed to fade away until it was just us. My breath came in heaving gasps as it became more difficult to breathe, my skin tingling with a fierce awareness of this man. Only moments ago, I had been staring at the destruction he had caused, and now all I wanted was to throw myself into his waiting arms.

“Violet!” my mother shrilled, “Do you know this... this beast?”

“Are you going to share the joyful news, or shall I?” I shook my head again, silently pleading with my eyes for him not to do this. He took no mercy on me. “I’ve come for my mate - and I’m not leaving without her.” He gave me
