King of Diamonds (All About the Diamond #2), стр. 40
“Like what?”
“You’ll see.” He grins at me like a fool. “Can you book our vacation today? And, your away game airfare?”
“I’ll book our vacation, but are you sure I should book the away game airfare?”
“Do you mean because I could get traded?”
“Yes. I don’t want you to get traded. You’ve always been a Seal and should stay one. I’ll go with you, if you get traded.”
“I know you’re a fan and know all about trades, but I didn’t think about talking with you about it. I guess, I haven’t had anyone like you in my life that mattered.” He laughs, “You were funny watching the game last night. Naked girl sitting there and second-guessing the coaching on both teams. You were drunk, but you know your baseball.” He stops and gazes at me, “You’d really go with me?”
“Of course, think of it as a long road trip.” My mind goes dirty. “Think of the silver lining. Do you know how many elevators there are out there, just waiting for us?” I start to laugh, but Rick’s eyes go dark and needy. He kisses me with intent and my belly starts to flutter. His hands flat on my back as he holds me to him. His lips warm and soft on mine, while his beard brushes against my face. He holds me and kisses me for the longest time. “I really do love you. I’ll do anything for you, my king.”
“The game starts at 12:40 today. Want to go get breakfast?” Rick must be hungry.
“How about I cook breakfast for you?”
“Even better.” He gives me a quick kiss and we get out of bed. I beeline for the coffee and check what I have to work with in the kitchen.
“Omelette, biscuits and gravy, or my magic waffles?” I call out to Rick.
“Magic waffles?”
“Waffles it is!” He wants to know what makes them magic, but he said waffles and that’s enough for me. I grab the bacon, buttermilk, eggs and butter from the refrigerator, and I retrieve my custom waffle mix. Yes, I have my own waffle mix that I put together myself. It’s so much better than the box. I melt some butter in the microwave while I beat up some eggs with buttermilk. I add my special dry mix and stir until it’s almost incorporated, then add melted butter until I get it to the right consistency. I set the batter aside and warm up my waffle iron. I toss precooked bacon pieces into a pan and toast them up a bit, making sure they’re crispy and bringing out some of the bacon grease. When the waffle iron is ready, I brush it with butter, add some batter and drop in some bacon. I close the waffle iron and flip it over repeating the process, but this time I add chocolate bits and bacon. I flip the waffle maker back over and wait for the light to go off, keeping an eye on the steam to make sure they don’t overcook. I pull the first waffle and repeat the process again, brushing the iron and refilling it with batter and bacon. I make six waffles total, half bacon and half bacon with chocolate. Rick walks into the kitchen while I’m in the process of making the waffles and he catches me pulling them to pieces and eating them as I make them—a quarter of a bacon waffle, then a quarter of a bacon waffle with chocolate, and he wants to know what makes them magic! Ha!
Rick takes a piece of waffle and gets a mouthful with bacon. He groans in pleasure, as if he’s submitting to the food coma. I hand him a piece with the chocolate and he stares at me stunned. “I didn’t think it could get better than bacon. This is delicious.”
“Wait until next time. If you’re good, I’ll make banana and chocolate.”
“You’re a fantastic cook, my queen. How did I get so lucky?” He smiles at me with waffle shoved in his mouth.
I smile because his words mean so much to me. “I’m going to bake something to take to Carter when I present him my offer.”
“Why don’t you bake enough for the whole clubhouse when I go back after my suspension?”
“I’m happy to. What do you want me to bake?”
“Cross wants more of those chocolate chip cookie bars. He’s been texting me.”
“I can do that. What do you want?”
Rick turns me to face him and holds my eyes with his, “I have everything I could ever want.” He kisses me and we go back to eating waffles. Tell me again how it is that I deserve this man?
“Do you have any plans tonight?” He smiles.
“Well, there’s this guy I’ve been spending all my time with. But, I might be able to get away. What do you have in mind?”
Rick shakes his head at me, “Date night. I want to take you out, my queen. Can you be ready at 6pm?”
“Yes. I can’t wait.” I really can’t because I love that he plans date night and I’m along for whatever he has in store.
“Tonight is fun, not fancy. It’s a jeans night. I’m going to take a run before the game. Please book our vacation.” He hands me his credit card. “And, keep the credit card info for booking your away game flights. I want you there with me and I’m paying for it.” He looks me in the eye like he’s looking a runner back to third and he means business, I’m not making a run for home. He disappears into the other room and I quickly clean up the kitchen, before getting to work. Rick walks up behind me in his running shorts and T-shirt, wraps his arms
