Brazen Bossman: A Hero Club Novel, стр. 52
That reality is thick in the air when she walks over and sits on the edge of the bed.
“Is this where we’ll be sleeping?” she asks, sliding her hands over the soft fabric.
“It is.”
“This place is amazing, Nathanial. It really is.”
I walk over to her and stand just in front of her knees. She reaches out and wraps her arms around my body so she can pull me closer, then she rests her forehead on my stomach.
“Tell me what you’re thinking.” I slide my hand over the top of her head and down her back over and over, petting her, appreciating her.
“I’m thinking that I’m happy and I feel so relaxed, but I’m also nervous, and I hope you will finally show me the real you. The one I know is inside of you somewhere. I want to be Piper and Nathanial this weekend. Nothing more than that.”
“Look at me.” I place my finger under her chin and tilt her head back. “Here is what I want you to do. Let go of anything you’re currently overthinking about, and instead, think about what you need me to stock the kitchen with for two days, and I’ll call for it to be delivered. Then I want you to change into your swimsuit. We are going to see the water and maybe take a dip. After that, we’ll play every single moment by ear and just do what we want and what feels right. Deal?”
She gives me a smile. “Deal.”
I bend down to give her a kiss, which she happily accepts.
She slides her hands underneath my shirt and grazes her nails up and down my back, causing me to groan into her mouth.
She parts her lips, offering me sweet access to her tongue. I didn’t want to hop immediately into bed with her. I wanted to make sure she knew this trip wasn’t just about sex, but when she makes that small purring sound under her breath when she’s turned on, I lose all willpower. A man can only handle so much.
She starts to lean back, pulling me with her until I am bracing my entire weight on my hands on the mattress by each side of her head.
With a simple widening of her thighs, I fit my hips between them and things progress from a simple kiss to foreplay almost instantly.
Clothes are disappearing. Breathing is becoming more labored and audible. She pushes up on her elbows and shimmies backward up the bed, and I follow her, sans shirt and jeans now pushed down under my ass.
Her romper is in a heap on the floor, panties right along with it.
“Hurry,” she begs, clawing at my waist, trying to pull me even closer than I already am.
I reach into my boxer briefs to pull my erection free and the sound of my ringing cell phone in my pocket slices directly through the moment.
“Fuck’s sake,” I say, as I drop my head to her shoulder.
“Take it,” she says with a giggle.
“Absolutely not. No way.” I kiss her neck, her chin, her jaw, and the ringing finally stops, but before there’s even a hint of peace, it starts ringing all over again.
“It could be important.” She pushes me back a bit with her hands on my shoulders. “Maybe your parents?”
That one sentence is like an ice bucket over my libido.
I move from her body and sit on the side of the bed, pulling my cell phone from my pocket.
It’s Gabrielle.
I turn around to Piper and hold my screen up. “I need to take this. It will just be a second.”
“Take your time.” She sits up and grabs her panties from the floor.
“I’ll be right back,” I tell her before answering the call. “Hey, Gabs.”
I cradle the phone on my shoulder and right my jeans, zipping them up.
“Jesus. Why are you so hard to get a hold of?”
“I told you I was going to The Hamptons house this weekend.” I look over my shoulder just in time to see Piper step into her romper and disappear into the bathroom.
“Yeah, but you always answer your phone, no matter where you are. Workaholic, remember?”
“I’m more than aware of that fact as it is thrown in my face often. Look, Gabs, I have company with me. Let’s make this quick.” I step out onto the patio just off the master bedroom, closing the door behind me.
“Wait a second. Company? As in company with a vagina?”
“Jesus, Gabrielle. Don’t start.”
“Yes! I knew it. Okay okay. I don’t want to ruin this alternate universe we have clearly slipped into here, so I’ll say what I need to say and be done with it.”
“Which is what I asked for from the start, but I digress.” I pinch the bridge of my nose.
“Okay, so we’ve run into a couple of hiccups with the current owners and some pushback, but I’m working through all of that now. I just wanted you to be aware of the situation. You know I don’t like making these moves without talking to your first.”
I look back over my shoulder and through the window to look for Piper, but she isn’t in the room anymore.
“Fuck’s sake. Okay. Let’s go over this, but we need to make it quick.”
Chapter 19
Piper
I’d like to say I was able to take it in stride that he completely ruined whatever moment we were having to answer the call from another woman, because let’s face it, I told him to answer, but that doesn’t make me less annoyed by it.
The sting of jealousy is a sharp bitch, and I don’t handle it well, especially when I know the woman he’s talking to is a blonde bombshell he carves out meeting time with every single week.
I’m in the kitchen making a grocery list in my phone when he finally comes back inside, fifteen minutes after stepping outside.
“Sorry about that. I didn’t mean for it to take that long,” he says, coming
