All In (Keep Breathing Book 2), стр. 85
"Liam's been awesome and I'm glad he made sure you didn't leave after all."
"Liam's been more than awesome. He's a fantastic Dad." Something you made clear you didn't want.
“He has been.”
“He is.” I bark. How dare he try to change the tone. Landon knows nothing, has seen nothing of Liam’s bond with Matty. My heart is cracking at the thought of Liam’s and Matty’s relationship getting torn apart by his twin brother’s sudden interest. “Why are you telling me now? What’s changed for you to come plowing in now?”
“I didn’t think I would ever change my mind with how I felt, but I also didn’t think it would ever get as far as it did between you and Liam to have to worry. Liam never stays with one woman.”
“So even after he took responsibility, you still hoped I would go away?”
“At first yes, but I’m glad you didn’t after all because when Maria and I found out we couldn’t have kids a couple weeks ago, everything I thought before changed. I went back and forth for a while if I should tell you. I had wondered if you would know it was me over Liam.”
“I didn’t.” I squeeze the pillow tighter to myself.
“I know, but at dinner the other night, seeing Maria with Matty, I knew I couldn’t keep it from her anymore. She wasn’t as mad as I thought she would be and she wants to be a part of Matty’s life. We want to be a part of Matty's life."
"Woah! Back the train up. You what?"
“We want to be a part of his life."
I toss the throw pillow to the ground, my breathing becoming erratic. "You suddenly want to be a part of his life now that it's convenient for you?"
"It's not like that."
"It's not?” I scoff. This man is un-fucking-believable. “It sounds like it. You didn't want to be the father because of your wife and now that she's okay with the news you knocked someone else up, you're on board?"
"I can see how that sounds."
"It's exactly how it sounds. What about Matty? What about Liam? Have you thought about them at all? Matty might be little, but this will affect him big time.”
"They’ll be fine." He pushes but doesn’t look at me. He’s fucking clueless to what kind of mess he’s coming in and making. If he really wanted this, he would be aware and more worried about the shitstorm he’s going to create for his son. And his brother.
I scoff. "They’ll be fine? Come on, don't play dense. This is going to kill Liam and you know it. He’s Matty’s dad. Matty knows him as such. He looks up to him and adores him. He is the only Dad he knows. He already knows there’s a difference between you two. He bonded with Liam in seconds and was instantly comfortable with him. Matty sees your unease. I see it.” I stab my finger into my chest.
“I don’t have un-ease. And Liam already knows.”
“What do you mean he already knows.”
“I told him about a month ago.”
“You did?” I say more to myself and it all comes so clear. The sudden reason he pushed me away. The battle he was having with his addiction. The pain. The pain he said I wouldn’t understand. The distant glum look he gets every once in a while in his eyes. The thing is, he came back. He didn’t have to, but he did. “When he asked you at dinner not to ruin this for him. This is what he was talking about, wasn't it?" Landon looks away, pinching his lips. "Wasn't it?" I yell.
“Yeah. It was."
“So you know how much this means to him?”
“I do. It’s why at first I told him not to tell you.”
“Again. Proves to me what kind of person you are and what interest you truly have.”
“It’s not like that. I changed my mind. I want to be part of Matty’s life. Liam will still be his uncle.”
“Uncle?” I snort. “And how will this work? You live in California. Are you going to come here? Or do you expect me to travel and go there? What?”
“I’m sure we can work something out. Me and Maria have a big house for him to grow up in. Lots of land to run around on. He’ll love it.”
“Pardon?” My eyes flutter. He thinks Matty is just going to move in with them. Over my dead body. In fact, it will have to be over my dead body. It’s not happening. “You want him to live where?”
His mouth opens and closes like a fish. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“No? Because it sounded like you wanted to just take my son and have him move right in with you and your wife.”
He rubs the back of his neck. “As I said, we can talk about it.”
“I personally feel you're using my son to fill your own needs.”
“He’s my son too.”
“Only now that you need him.” I snip. An angry fire boils in my veins, ready to disintegrate this man before me. “You said many times you didn’t want to be a part of Matty’s life. You had months to say something. I’m sorry your wife can’t have kids. I truly am. I can’t imagine the heartbreak for both of you, but it doesn’t excuse you from turning your back on Matty when you knew. You don't love Matty, you love the thought of him. Instead, your brother stepped in and took the job. He loves Matty as his own even after knowing the truth. The fact you want to take away the only father my son has known, says what kind of man you are. Maybe if you
