Uncontrollable Bachelor (Bachelor Tower Series), стр. 49

the most freaking romantic thing I’ve ever heard. But the only word echoing in my mind is the word love. He still loves me. I, for once, was speechless.

He added, “Your father told me if you love something, set it free. But I don’t want to let go of you again. We’ve lost so much time already that I don’t want to think about the next day, never mind year without you in my life.”

“I love you, Jace. We were given a second chance. But I’m…so scared about…”

“Trusting me?” he asked. I nodded. He reached out and took my hand in his. “Trust has to be earned. All I can do is ask for you to give me that chance to prove myself to you.”

I was working my rebuilding a healthy relationship with my father. Now Jace is practically pleading for the same. But there is a huge difference between the two. My father will always be my father, but Jace, he could change his mind again, and I’m not sure I’d survive it.

“Jace, I want to. I love you. But what if…”

He squeezed my hand and said, “What if this is it? What if it is our time? What if these twelve years were for us to grow into the people we are now, so we could be ready to be there for each other for the rest of our lives?”

I could only stare at him. Jace never used to speak about feelings like this. He also never took chances. “You’re serious. You really want us to try again?”

He shook his head. “No. I want us to never stop trying. When you do, you’re at the end. And Shannon, this is a new chapter for us. All we need to do is pull back on the road, head up to the cabin and let our love write the story for us.” He pulled my hand to his lips and said, “I will drive you in either direction. North for the cabin or South for Boston. Just say one word, and I’ll respect your decision.”

He made it sound like it was so simple. It wasn’t. This one word, north or south, was deciding our future. It was saying, do I love him enough or not and for me to decide right now. I could feel my heart racing and my palms sweat. I looked over into his eyes, and he didn’t seem nervous at all.

“How can you be so…calm?” I asked.

“Because I trust you and I have faith in us.”

I knew what my heart wanted. North. Hell, I’d follow him to the ends of the Earth if he asked. Boston would be…giving up on us. I knew I couldn’t do that. I’m glad he and Betsy set this up. I needed someone to give me the push that I was too afraid to make on my own. And from the sounds of it, the people I love support driving north too.

“Jace, I do trust you. I know why you did what you did. My father told me everything, and I also had a long chat with your friend Carlton. He told me that your being with me actually put your life in danger too, when it didn’t need to be. I have no idea what lies ahead for us. But for me, I say….drive north.”

I didn’t notice that Jace had been holding his breath waiting for my answer. But once I said north, it was as though he relaxed.

He reached for me and said, “Damn console. I want to pull you into my arms and kiss you.”

I smiled at him and said, “We have the rest of our lives for kisses. Right now, maybe we should get to the cabin before its dark.”

“I love you,” he said.

“I love you too, Jace. Now drive before we’re spending the night on the side of the road.” I gave him a playful wink and said, “I hear the State Police frown upon couples necking in the breakdown lane.”

“Not sure it’d stop at just necking so you’re right, time to hit the road,” he said laughing as he pulled back onto the highway.

This next chapter is looking like the best one yet.
