Risky Rockstar: A Hero Club Novel, стр. 36
“Oh my God, that outfit is stunning! I wonder where she got it.”
Keller cocks a brow. “Over my fucking dead body.”
Maddie shoots him a half-smile. “Oh baby, that can be arranged.”
The exchange between my friends would be hilarious if I wasn’t over here trying not to choke on my own fucking drool. Hayley is sex personified on that stage. I feel how she teases and flirts with the crowd from here, setting every one of the 20,000 hearts on fire.
The first verse ends, and Hayley grins at the crowd, her bloodred lips a sinful promise. “Hello, LA, how are you tonight?”
The fans go crazy, and Maddie rubs her arms. “I’ve got goose bumps. This is always my favorite part of the show.”
I don’t take my eye off the show, I’m too mesmerized by Hayley to say anything. Right now, everything about seeing Hayley perform is my favorite part.
When the whistles and screams die down, Hayley continues to address the crowd. “I have a little surprise for you tonight. Anyone follow social media?” Hayley gives the audience a knowing wink, and I lean forward, resting my elbows on my knees. “Then you’ll know I have a new man in my life.” Fuck! I drain my beer. I knew this—why did my stomach just take a nosedive into my feet? “That said, it is my pleasure…” Innuendo drips from her voice when she says the word “pleasure,” and fuck it, all I can see is Hayley’s face the way it appeared in my dreams—except this time, that look’s for Kevin, and I don’t fucking like it.
Kevin walks onstage, casual as fuck, and when he starts singing, my eyebrows shoot up. Damn, he can really sing. I figured he’d have a decent voice if Hayley was going to use the show to confirm the rumors, but I didn’t realize he was really good. As in he could make a career out of it good.
Kevin doesn’t waste any time up there, drinking Hayley in, and I can’t say I blame the guy. She steps toward him, her hand snaking around his neck, pulling him closer to her, singing into his neck. I watch them flirt, touch, caress each other as if basically dry humping onstage is the most normal thing in the world for them. They work the stage, giving the crowd what they want, and when Kevin moves behind Hayley, his crotch pressed against her ass, her arm reaches back to touch the back of his neck intimately.
Her crop top rises, and it barely covers her nipples, but that’s not what I’m focused on. Kevin’s hands splay over Hayley’s midriff, and he caresses her naked flesh. I can’t watch this fucking shit anymore, and my eyes fall to the carpet, the grip on my beer bottle tightening with every note I hear coming from the TV. I’m nearly sick with jealousy over him touching her that way onstage for the world to see when every single fucking night, I touch her that way in my dreams.
I can’t watch anymore. Forgetting I’m in company, I scrub a hand over my face. What the hell’s the matter with me?
I hear Keller clear his throat. “Uh, I’m gonna get another beer. Kade, you want one?”
I open my eyes, crashing back to reality and into Keller and Maddie’s living room. Keller is looking at me like I’ve just lost my mind (which I think I may have), and Maddie’s brow is creased as she looks from the TV to me.
“Sure,” I reply.
Keller leaves, and Maddie shoots me a look. “Wowzer, you’ve got it bad.”
I don’t even try to deny it. Maddie can sniff out the truth like a narc dog in a coke factory.
“Damn!” I dangle the empty bottle from my fingertips.
“When did this happen?”
“At the studio. When we recorded the test song.”
“Huh.” She tucks her legs under her and waggles her eyebrows. “You got hit by the instalust bug.”
I scrub a hand along my face again. “I can’t stop thinking about her. Mads, I haven’t thought about anyone this way since Emily.”
Maddie uncurls her legs and comes over to sit next to me, placing a hand on my knee. She looks into my eyes, and I see understanding there. I don’t know if I should feel relieved or even more messed up. “I see. I’m sorry you had to see that.” She gestures to the TV.
I shrug. A little too late for nonchalant, Kade. “She looks happy.”
“Josh called it.” Keller hands me the beer. I clench my jaw, fighting the urge to spit out that Josh doesn’t know what he’s fucking talking about. This isn’t just me wanting to get my dick wet. Keller must see it in my face because he sits on the coffee table opposite me. “Stay away from Hayley, Kade. You don’t need the drama.”
“A little hard to do when we’ve just signed an album deal with her.”
Keller takes a sip of his beer. “You know what I mean.”
“I’m not about to fuck someone else’s girl, Kel. Thanks for the vote of confidence.” Irritation rises in me, and I don’t know if I’m pissed at my friends or myself.
Maddie squeezes tighter. “What Keller is trying to say is—”
I cut her off. “Don’t worry, okay. It’s just a musical connection. That’s all.”
Maddie and Keller exchange a look. Keller shakes his head almost imperceptibly, telling her not to say whatever’s on her mind.
“Sure, that’s probably it.”
I can see she doesn’t believe me. I barely believe myself. I just don’t know what to do about it.
Chapter 15
Hayley
After Kevin left the stage, it was another two hours before
