Forever, стр. 70
No doubt she’s thinking more of the design than the man. What a shame and a waste. Axle and Diggs are two fine-ass men. I shake my head and focus on my task.
“I was thinking of getting some ink,” I say, drawing her attention back to me.
She looks at me with new curiosity. “Really, what are you looking to get?” She places her food back on the table in front of her and gives me her full attention.
I shrug and feign thinking. “I’m not sure yet. I thought maybe a butterfly or something. I’ve been trying to figure out if I want an open one or one with its wings closed. You know? I think I’ll lose the chance for detail if I go with a closed one.”
“Well, not really. I mean, you could always add details in the illusion of motion of the wings or vary the size to offer the wings more detail,” she says, seeming to be in thought.
“What do you mean?” I ask and hold my breath. I’m counting on her next move.
Just as I hoped, she digs into her boot and pulls out two sharpies. “Come here, I’ll show you.” She waves me over.
I set the rest of my chicken down and move to sit where I can block her view of her open sweet tea. Sugar taps her chin in thought.
“Take your shirt off. I have an idea for the perfect tat for you,” she chirps and the light bulb goes off.
I pull my shirt off and let her start to draw on me with her sharpies. Sugar gets lost in her drawing. I wait until I know she’s fully engrossed in her work and slowly snap a capsule open, I subtly move forward toward her sweet tea and drop the powder in.
“Try to stay still,” Sugar mutters.
I look over my shoulder, but she is focused, her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth in concentration. I grin, relax, and wait. It doesn’t take long.
Sugar absently reaches for the jug of sweet tea and chugs it. She places it back down and continues to work. I know the moment it starts to kick in. Sugar swipes a wrist across her brow and blinks.
“Shit,” she mutters, and widens her eyes at the task before her. I see when it dawns on her that she’s fucked. “No.”
She tries to fight, but her lids are already drooping. I tsk at the surprised look on her face. Reap told her not to trust me. She should have listened.
I grab Sugar’s phone and dial my little bitch. “Hey, what’s up, Sug,” Jemma says sleepily into the phone.
“It’s not Sug. It’s me. I’ll give you half of the money. Just help me get out of here,” I say sharply.
“What changed your mind this time? How do I know you’ll follow through?” Jemma grumbles.
“He’s going to let them kill me. I have no choice. My back is to the wall. Miguel isn’t far away. I can feel it and now I don’t even have Brick to protect me,” I seethe. “You made sure of that. It doesn’t matter if word gets out that I’ve cashed in. He’s already coming.”
“I only told Brick the truth,” Jemma replies and I swear I hear the smile in her voice.
Fucking bitch.
“Whose truth, Jemma?” I yell.
“Ours, Mags, you tried to fuck me over. You did fuck me over. David is gone. That’s what you wanted, right?”
“No, I wanted you to know how I felt. I wanted you to see how much it hurt to give up my baby for you,” I say as my chest heaves with anger.
“You’re delusional, you know that. You decided to have that abortion. I told you to go to Brick about it.”
“Whatever. I said I’ll get us the money. So, come and get me. Now!”
I hang up the phone and text her the address to come for me. She’ll be able to get away from the clubhouse. No one gives a shit about her but me. Brick tolerates her.
I’ll show them all. If I can’t have him, no one can. Bitch should have killed me while she had the chance.
Jemma
This is a mistake. I know it is. Brick will never forgive me for this.
He wants Mags gone for good, but if I help her that’s not guaranteed. I have a baby to think about. I know Mags has lost it.
Her words prove it. I never forced her to abort that baby. That was her choice. She was afraid of Brick and what he might do. I told her he would never hurt her. I’ve always made Brick feel like all of this is his fault, but it’s mine.
I brought not only my crazy, but Magdalena’s crazy into his world. That’s why I have to do this. I have to help her and help myself.
I can’t ask one more thing of Brick. He has always helped me when he didn’t have to. I help Mags, I get my cut of the money, and then I can be off and out of Brick’s hair.
I stare at the gun in my hand. If Mags reneges, I’ll put a bullet in her trifling head. I’m tired of being led around by her every whim. It stops here.
“I’ll fix this, baby,” I say to my unborn child.
Shoving the gun in my bag, I put the car I just hotwired into drive. Rodney came through for me again, he was the one to let me out of the gates of the compound. The sooner I get this over with, the better off everyone will be.
I should’ve killed this bitch when I had the chance.
Chapter 34
It’s Her
Eva
“No, I don’t remember,” she says in a quiet voice. She looks around at us all, but there’s absolutely no recognition.
I try to tell myself it’s because I’m older, but deep down I know it’s more than that. I fist my hands at my sides fighting
