with our combined sweat. Our scents mix in the air making my new favorite fragrance.

“Owen, please, please, please,” she sobs.

I drop my gaze to her bouncing breasts. Goose bumps pebble her skin. She soaks me as a silent scream catches in her throat and her face contorts with pleasure.

When her body quakes with the third, I roar my own release. The back of my head tingles with the force of it. I have to blink a few times to clear my vision.

I look down at Eva. She’s watching me with a dreamy look on her sweaty face. I kiss her lips and tug her to my chest.

“I missed you too,” she giggles.

Nuzzling her neck, I chuckle. “It was one of those days.”

She runs her fingers through my hair. “Glad I could help.”

You have no idea.

Chapter 18

Stay Like This

Brick

“This hotel is going to be amazing,” Eva says as she scans over a set of blueprints I’m finalizing to be sent out.

“If we can get the design approved, it will be. We’ve redone the plans four times already,” I murmur.

“What’s the hold up. I mean, what won’t they approve?”

It’s a simple question. As an intern it’s good she’s asking. However, there’s no simple answer for me to give her.

This is where the road meets muddy waters. Business versus club business. The shit she has no business next to.

“It’s complicated. If you ask me it’s all red tape. Someone’s getting a hard-on from blocking the project from moving forward. Nothing was wrong with the original design, nor the second or third. Politics.”

“Really,” she says with rounded eyes. “They can block your plans just to block them?”

“You have a lot to learn, darlin’. I’ve had multiple projects blocked at once because someone had a problem with me.”

“What did you do?” she asks.

“I have bigger friends in higher places. A few phone calls and things were as they should be,” I reply and shrug.

“What’s so different about this one?”

I look up and stare her in the eyes. I’m already up shit creek with King. This is getting too close to club business. Something I know he wants to keep Eva out of.

I’m not going to lie to her, but I can’t go and tell her I normally throw around my Lost Souls weight either. However, this time we need to be more careful of the doors we kick in. I always go with my instincts and something tells me this project has had eyes on it from the word go.

I almost walked away without placing the bid, but the revenue was too great for me to let the opportunity pass by. Not to mention, the location is prime. I want to build in this district.

Instead of lying to her face. I crook my finger for her to come to me. She lifts to her knees from her place on the floor near the couch beside me and closes the gap.

I peck her lips and nuzzle my nose to hers. “You’ve been doing really well with the blueprints. That computer shit doesn’t have the same feel as doing it the old fashion way. I’ll make sure you master both, you never know when you need to fall back on the old-school skills,” I say and peck her lips again as another distraction on top of redirecting the conversation.

Her cheeks glow. “I’m glad I took the internship with you. I’m learning a lot more than I would have if I went back home to intern with someone else,” she says.

I furrow my brows. I never considered she would have gone back home to intern with someone else. When King asked me to look at her portfolio and consider her, I only thought of placing her somewhere within Soul Deep Construction.

For the life of me, I can’t tell you why this makes me a bit insane for a moment. Eva places her hand on my cheek. She presses her lips to mine but pulls away before I can deepen the kiss.

“You have to remember I didn’t put two and two together. I didn’t know you were the brother King had put a word in with. I had planned to go back home before you walked into this office,” she says as if reading my mind.

I grunt.

“You do know I’m happy you were the one to walk through that door, right?” she breathes.

I wrap an arm around her. “Why is that? Because I fuck you within an inch of your breath for lunch and help you get your work done after hours,” I tease.

She slaps at my chest. I catch her hand and bring it to my lips for a kiss before capturing it against my heart. We stare into each other’s eyes for I don’t know how long.

“I wish things could stay this way,” she says, breaking the trance.

I wish they could too, but change is inevitable. With the talk I need to have with King and all that’s about to change around us, I know things won’t always be this way. I haven’t fooled myself into thinking they will be.

Hell, Misty and Eva are best friends. However, Eva hasn’t spoken to her much. Eva has really only had communication with me. Once friendships and life start to press on this new bond, we don’t know what will happen.

Yet, in this moment, as hope fills her eyes, I can’t find it in me to say all that. Instead, I smile and hold her tighter. “We’ll take it a day at a time, darlin’. That’s the best we can ever do.”

This time when I take her lips, I don’t let her up for air until I’ve had my fill. Yeah, I’m probably going to be up all night finishing her work I didn’t let her get through. I’m grateful for the apartment upstairs.

Eva

I watch Brick in his sleep. He looks so peaceful. Tonight, I felt like there was so much weighing on his mind.

If I’m honest, it was there before tonight. It reminded me of
