Forever, стр. 37
“I’m not much of a drinker. Besides, these are working hours for me. I’ll be fine here. I have some blueprints I need to get to after sorting these files. Thanks, though.”
“Shame. I would have enjoyed your company,” he says.
He stands and moves closer to my chair. I draw back in my seat. This guy really doesn’t get I’m not at all interested in him.
Please go away.
Too bad he doesn’t get the message. Instead, he reaches over me and picks up the file I just finished working on. He flips through it as if he’s overlooking my work.
I frown. Ugh, his cologne is giving me a headache. I pluck the folder from his hand.
“I have this one completed. Don’t want anything to fall out of order,” I say.
“I can see why the boss wanted you as his intern. You’re pretty thorough. What do you say I take a rain check on that lunch date?”
Oh my God, is he slow?
“I like to eat here. I’m not sure that rain check will happen,” I say pointedly.
“Keep it in mind. Totally my treat. We can go anywhere you want, doesn’t have to be my suggestion.”
“Yeah, sure,” I reply to get him out of here so I can finish my work.
“You know where to find me. It was good to see you, Eva. Always a pleasure to see you,” he says with that smile I’m sure he thinks is charming.
Like your ass hasn’t been in here every day so far this week. Ugh! Dick.
I only stare at him in confusion. I’ve never shown him any interest, and yet, here he is, again. I shake my head as he moves for the door to leave.
I pick up my phone to see if Owen has sent me a text. Troy has only served to remind me of how much I miss Owen. I bite my lip when I see nothing.
Pushing down my disappointment, I remind myself he’s a busy man. There were a few hiccups he had to deal with today. I’m more than aware it could take him longer than usual to return.
Doesn’t mean I can’t miss him a little bit. Okay, a whole lot. I flip open the next file.
Keep busy, Eva. He’ll return soon enough.

As I type a message out on my phone and send it, my attention is pulled by movement from my office door. I look up and stop in my fucking tracks. The smile I had on my face—thinking Eva would be the one stepping out—disappears and I nearly snarl as I see Troy.
“Why the fuck are you coming out of my office?” I snap.
He has no business on this side of the building. His office is on the other side of the building down the corridor with all the other finance officers. I have no need for him today, anything he has to communicate with me could have been said in a fucking email.
I look past him to the door. Eva. He’s been sniffing around her from what Holden has told me.
I’m going to cut this motherfucker’s balls off. I have to count to ten to remind myself not to lose it here in my place of business. Troy looks back at me with wide eyes.
I lift my chin and hold my phone at my side in a death grip, waiting for an answer. Troy has gone completely pale. I begin to storm in his direction, the only thing that saves him is the reply text from King I’d been waiting on.
I shove past Troy and head into my office. I’ll deal with him later. The moment I step inside, my anger wanes.
The sight of Eva in deep concentration brings my smile back. She looks up as I close the distance between us. I read the text from King and send a quick reply to let him know I have him covered. The distance between me and the club allows for more reach.
I get shit done. I send one more text to carry out my task for the club before placing my phone away with one hand and shoving the other into Eva’s bun. I tilt her head back and take her lips in a lingering, searing kiss.
I try not to do this here in the office, but it’s been a long day and I miss her more than I’m willing to admit out loud. When she clings to my bare forearms and whimpers, I know this is going to get more serious than a kiss. I groan, knowing I’m willing to stay overtime to help her finish whatever she doesn’t get done because of me.
“Let’s go,” I grunt as I break the kiss.
I tug her up from her seat and guide her to the bookshelf. I can’t get her upstairs fast enough. When her heels seem to make her too cautious on the stairs to move as fast as I want, I pause and toss her over my shoulder.
“Owen,” she yelps.
“I’ve got you,” I say and slap her full ass.
She smells so good. My mouth waters. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I know I’ve needed this all day. Tension has been high. My gut keeps telling me something is coming.
King’s requests have been somewhat light. However, they are all building to something. For once, I want to forget all of that.
I want to get lost in the feeling of being just a man with his woman. A man who goes home at night and doesn’t have to feel lost and at times alone. I’m the one who distanced myself from my brothers and it’s all because of this woman over my shoulder.
I kick the bedroom door open and march inside. The place still smells of Eva from the last time we were here. A smile comes to my face as I think of how much she’s made her place in my world.
“What about work?” she says and laughs as
